The role of your tragic hero within a plot is essential within a dramatic film or crafted work. The hero has the standards of becoming a great character that can take control of the story through brave action and bold dialogue. However , considering that the character is definitely deemed a " tragicвЂќ hero, his flaws can ultimately become his downfall, usually ultimately causing the heroes own decline. Nowhere is this ideal of a tragic main character more relevant that in Chinua Achebe's novel Things Fall Apart.
The story is placed in late nineteenth-century in a small village in Nigeria. The tragic hero in this instance is a child named Okonkwo. He is a dynamic growing character nevertheless is condemned from the beginning with the story with two key flaws that in the end will destroy his character. Okonkwo cannot bodily display some of his emotions because he considers it is a sure sign of weakness. His second flaw is that if and when he will show virtually any emotion, costly uncontrollable rage. Both of these defects will get Okonkwo into problems that he cannot handle.
Okonkwo has been taught from a very young age that showing his emotions can be described as feminine attribute, a sign of weakness inside his traditions. This is caused because when ever Okonkwo was obviously a child his father had not been very included in the community or with the parent counsel. The community is the most important aspect of everyday life to get Okonkwo's people. The small town does not have a central government, but it really is has democratic ruling through the parent males (Ohadike xxii). Since Okonkwo's dad was laid back and consumed too much, he did not acquire any esteem from the majority of the community.
